Recipe: Turkish Pizza – Lahmacun

I just came home from a Turkish dinner and it was not only very nice but also very tasty. It’s been two month since I’ve last had Turkish food (3,50 € Döner Kebab, I miss you) so I’ve been especially eager all week for today.

Lahmacun is like a turkish pizza. It is a thin piece of dough topped with minced meat, minced vegetables and herbs and then baked in the oven. I often order it like then on its own or with kebab filling.

The first time I had it was in elementary school in Berlin. After having eaten so many Döner Kebabs my mom wanted a change. So one day she came home with Yufka Dürüm instead, which has the same filling as a kebab but instead of the bread you wrap the filling into wither a simple Yufka (basic flatbread) or lahmacun. I can still vividly remember how mind-blowing the taste was for me!

The following recipe is by my Turkish friends and was written by the lovely Silan. Instead of turkish flatbread they just used tortilla wraps which are a perfect lazy substitute!

Instructions
  1. For the spread: Put just the vegetables together into a food processor or a blender, turn it on.

  2. Add other ingredients and mix everything together. It is supposed to be a bit juicy, if it is not add some water, oil.

  3. Take 2 tsp of the mix and expand it on each tortilla bread, Trick: The top of the tortillas should be as thin as possible and expanded everywhere except the edges

  4. Cook them in preheated oven 175 degrees for 15 minutes.

  5. Top it with tomatoes, onions, cabbage and lemon juice. Thats all! Enjoy!
