Vietnamese Banh Mi at Mi AA – Happy Bread, Da Nang
What is Bánh mì?
Bánh mì are Vietnamese sandwiches served in a single-serving baguette and filled with various savory ingredients from native Vietnamese cuisine such as such as chả lụa (pork sausage), pickled carrots…
The Banh Mi at this store isn’t what I would call a traditional Vietnamese Bahn Mi though. The sandwiches especially suit the taste of Koreans since they are the main target group and customers. Except for the staff I’ve only seen Koreans here whenever I walked by this joint and reviews on the internet say the same.
The sandwiches are tasty but pricy for Vietnamese standards. Me and my sister shared one with ham (number 4) to try. My advice: You can get fresh and tasty Vietnamese sandwiches in street stalls and other restaurants for a fraction of the price outside this store. There is a small sweet stall around 10m next to it! That’s what my mother did because she didn’t want to spend so much money on sth. that is just as tasty outside this store. The sandwiches do taste great though and the ingredients are fresh. Ours had little greens on it but lots of meat. Beware: The filling is on the oilier side.
Banh Mi AA Happy Bread is conveniently located near the Han river next to the Han Market. The staff speaks English, and there is a good choice of Vietnamese sandwiches. The place gets easily crowded (with Koreans) so we went here early in the morning. It has aircon which is greatness in itself considering how high temperatures get in Vietnam in July.
Nice interior with good but pricy banh mi.
